Built and founded in 1926, Altenrhein Airport was used until the Second World War for regular flights to Basel, Dübendorf, Innsbruck and Munich. Daily flights to Vienna began in the late 1980s, during which time the airport underwent extensive expansion of its infrastructure, with further extensions in the early 2000s. Flights to Vienna, served by Austrian Airlines, were terminated in 2013, however People’s Viennaline and VLM Airlines offer regular scheduled and charter flights.
