CARBON NEUTRAL SINCE 2007
An independent audit determines our carbon footprint. To reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, we make internal adjustments and ensure we are certified according to the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard. We have been carbon neutral since 2007 and work with Natural Capital Partners (NCP) supporting projects around the world.
ACS’s internal Environment Team, which includes senior directors, is always looking for ways to improve our Environment Management System. We have implemented various programs, including recycling and waste management, and have set up a cycle-to-work scheme. We complete a yearly greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment to quantify our carbon footprint, entering data on things like travel, fuel and water usage, waste, outbound deliveries and staff commuting. NCP then use this information to calculate the amount of carbon tonnes as a company we have emitted. Times that by the unit price per project, gives us the amount that we pay to offset the carbon we use.
Since 2007 we have been involved in a number of projects with NCP, including projects such as the West India Wind Power Project in India, the Tieling Coal Mine Methane Project in China as well as other global power and renewable energy projects worldwide.
West India Wind Power
This project covered three districts, and involves the implementation of wind farms to deliver clean renewable electricity to India’s national grid which would other have been drawn mainly from power stations using fossil fuels.
Tieling Coal Mine Methane Project, China
At each of the six coal mines in the Northeastern province of Liaoning technology has been installed to capture methane and blend in to a concentration that can be used as a fuel source, preventing it from being released into the atmosphere.
